Volunteering at Burcham Hills is a rewarding experience for both the elder and the volunteer. Volunteers work right alongside staff members, providing the very best person-centered assistance to elders.
We have many positions available, from clerical work in an office setting, to friendly visits with individual elders, to facilitating recreational activities such as Bingo, Scrabble and Euchre. Individual volunteers must fill out an Application for Volunteer Work (see link below) in order to initiate contact with the Volunteer Services Coordinator. We ask for a commitment of at least one hour per week or bi-weekly. The Individual Volunteer process includes an interview, full background check, Burcham Hills orientation and two sets of TB tests. This process takes about two to three weeks and also applies to those interested in an internship at Burcham Hills.
We also have Group Volunteer opportunities. Groups may structure their own event for our elders, or they may assist staff in facilitating an already planned event such as Casino Night or Dinner at the Drive-In Movie. Group leaders must submit an application on behalf of their group to initiate contact with the Volunteer Services Coordinator. The Group Volunteer process includes an interview to determine the details of the group's participation, full background check of the group's leader, and Burcham Hills orientation as needed. Events are planned at least one month ahead of the intended date.
To start the volunteer process, please submit your application to the Volunteer Services Coordinator either by email or to our main lobby receptionist. All applications are appreciated and will be reviewed. However, due to the high volume of applicants at times, please allow a week for a reply.
