Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Burcham Hills Retirement Community!

In order to volunteer with us, you need to fill out an Application for Volunteer Work (see link below), commitment to at least 30 hours per year, have a full background check, and attend a Volunteer Orientation. Burcham Hills will conduct the background check and our Volunteer Orientations are offered as needed, generally on Monday afternoons and Thursday early evenings (other arrangements can be made, please contact the Volunteer Services Leader to find out when the next orientation will be held).

We have many positions available, from assisting nursing staff in our Center for Health & Rehabilitation to filing papers in an office to visiting with individual residents to facilitating recreation activities like bingo or group crossword puzzles. Volunteers can even work weekend and nighttime hours. We also have opportunities for groups to volunteer in a number of different ways from providing their own events for our residents to helping our staff facilitate events and many more.

To start the volunteer process, please submit your application to the Volunteer Services Leader either electronically by email or to our Receptionist located in our main lobby.

Burcham Hills Retirement Community
Individual and Group Volunteer Protocols

Purpose:

To provide opportunities for individual community members to give back care and learn through service to the Burcham Hills Retirement Community.

Individual Volunteer Protocol:

1.      All individual volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. If the volunteer is under 14 years of age, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
2.      All individual volunteers must commit to 30 hours per year.
3.      A volunteer application must be completed prior to volunteering.
4.      A volunteer orientation must be attended prior to volunteering.
5.      All Volunteers must complete a TB test & undergo a Background Check prior to beginning their volunteer service.
6.      All individual volunteers must follow all Burcham Hills policies and procedures while on site.
7.      All individual volunteers must sign in upon arriving at Burcham Hills and sign out upon leaving.
8.      Volunteering will not be permitted in cases of court ordered or community service for a felony or misdemeanor. 

Group Volunteers: (Including but not limited to: special event entertainers (singers, dancers, and musicians), student service organizations, religious groups, or other community groups)

1.      The group leader must fill out an Application for Volunteer Work prior to volunteering.
2.      The group leader must undergo a background check prior to volunteering. (Information on the Application will be used by HR to conduct this).
3.      The group leader must submit to a TB test.
4.      The group leader must fill out a Group Volunteer Cover Sheet and Volunteer Group Special Events Form prior to volunteering.
5.      The group leader must attend volunteer orientation prior to volunteering.
6.      The group leader must sign in upon arriving at Burcham Hills and sign out upon leaving with their group.
7.      Volunteering will not be permitted in cases of court ordered or community service for a felony or misdemeanor. 

All volunteers may  receive a free meal in any of our dining rooms as a thank you for service.
